Notes from the Directors:

We hope everyone had a restful and enjoyable summer, and we welcome all our new and returning students. We look forward to the children settling into their classes and the daily routines nicely. Of course, if you have any questions or concerns, our door is always open.

Please take a moment to look over the newsletter. Overviews of class activities are reported on alternating months, with general news being announced every month. The school calendar is also available on the web, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Let's make this a great school year!

For 2011/2011 Educational Outfitters is our uniform supplier.

ALL uniform clothing must be purchased from this company.

The clothing is high quality and available at competitive prices. Educational Outfitters will replace any item that becomes prematurely worn through regular use and washing, or that shrinks or fades.

If you are ordering on-line you will need the school code: FL0835. The "0" is a zero and not the letter "o."

Gently used uniform clothing is also available at the main office. Please see Ms. Herbert.

REMINDERS

*Please remember that sandals are not appropriate for playtime. Be sure that your child wears close-toed, rubber-soled shoes such as sneakers or Mary Janes.

*Glass bottles and candy are not allowed in the children's lunchboxes. Please pack two napkins along with a nutritious lunch and an ice pack. Please include a healthy snack for your child if your child will be staying in after-school care. Try to use reusable containers and cloth napkins if at all possible. We recycle by returning recycable items to you in your child's lunchbox; please put these items in your recycling bin at home.

*Elementary/middle school parents, please remember to sign your children in at the main office when arriving late (after 8:30 a.m.).

*During morning drive-thru drop-off and afternoon pick-up, we ask that parents remain in their cars. To keep drive-thru flowing smoothly and quickly, we ask that you arrange conferences or seek answers to any questions you might have by phoning us or parking your car and coming into your child's school.

*Please keep all contact information up to date in the main office and your child's school. In case of an emergency it is IMPERATIVE that we be able to contact you. Incorrect information could result in a delay.

If your child will be late or absent, please contact your child's school that morning by 9:30 a.m. to let his or her teachers know the reason for his or her tardy or absence. If your child's school has not received a call by 9:30 a.m., we will attempt to contact you to ascertain the cause for your child's tardy or absence.

After-School Activities are available for an additional charge. Information is distributed as it comes available. Activities offered this year will be a drama club by Impact, chess, Dreadhead Sports Clubs, yoga, and a music-and-movement class by Mr. Davis.

Ar you looking for a way to recycle paper and be environmentally conscious? Bring us your spare printer paper after you have printed on one side--instead of throwing it away. We have all kinds of uses for recycled paper, and the trees will thank you!

Volunteers at our school perform all kinds of good deeds. They listen to our readers, make donations (goodies, craft supplies, books, for example), give demonstrations, etc. We are grateful for the time each of you takes to be with our students and to help the staff. If you are interested in being a school volunteer, please contact the school directors. Please keep in mind that we do not use volunteers for the first six weeks of the school year, and you are required to go through background screening before volunteering.

Our first Friday Fun Lunch at the Maitland schools will be Friday, September 10. Cheese pizza (no toppings) from Papa John's is being offered at $2.50 a slice. You may purchase pizza by the month or in several months' blocks. Simply complete your child's pizza form and return it with payment to his or her teacher(s) no later than Wednesday before 11:00 a.m.

Please keep in mind that we cannot issue refunds or credits for the days your child may be absent and misses his or her pizza.

We have put a small mark-up on all the food in order to add to our yearbook fund and Booster Club.

Food service from Wholesome Tummies has been discontinued for this school year.

Our schools have an active Booster Club. Parents and other family members are encouraged to become involved. Contact details can be found on our web site at www.maitlandmontessori.org. Booster Club meeting notices will be e-mailed to you and posted at the schools.

Sadly, we have had to say goodbye to Mr. Conner, our elementary/middle school P.E. and Science Enrichment teacher. We look forward to Dreadhead Sports taking over our P.E. program for the elementary/middle school. Dreadhead Sports has provided a fun and instructional extracurricular sports program to Maitland Montessori School for several years. Students who have participated in track, tennis, soccer, golf, basketball, or cheerleading have enjoyed a safe environment where they can learn skills without the heavy pressure of intense competition. Dreadhead Sports is excited to begin a new chapter with Maitland Montessori School this school year.

Coach Steve Wittek, from Dreadhead Sports, will be training, teaching, and motivating your students throughout the 2010-2011 school year. For 14 years Dreadhead has fought childhood obesity by helping children become physically active on and off the field. Throughout the years they have collectively helped thousands of children understand how to interact with others, work as a team, learn the importance of winning and losing, while continually reminding them: "It's all about having fun!" Their program gives parents yet another reason to be involved in their child's life; Dreadhead Sports goes beyond helping children and proudly makes a difference in entire families.

Sign-up time for extracurricular Dreadhead Sports activities is here. Sign up before September 20 and receive a special discount. Information for track, tennis, and golf are now available at www.dreadhead.com

We are please to announce our new staff members: Wendy Babinchak (Altamonte Montessori School), and Becky Flanagan and Steve Wittek of Dreadhead Sports (Maitland Montessori Elementary/Middle School).

Pamela Paré formally worked at Altamonte Montessori School and will be joining the elementary/mdidle school staff beginning this school year.

Scott Sibbitt will work at Altamonte Montessori School and Maitland Montessori Elementary/Middle School.
