SPANISH AND ART SUMMER CAMP with Mrs. Prado and Mrs. Serbia

Location: 200 N. Swoope Avenue, Maitland, Florida, 32751

A few weeks of a summer camp can have an amazing impact on any child. In this camp, your child will be exposed to art activities and Spanish.

Artistic activities not only provide an outlet for self-expression but serve a practical purpose as well. In the art portion of this camp, the children's senses will be stimulated as their motor skills are refined. Activities will vary from week to week. We will create greeting cards, plantable pulp cards, jewelry, mosaics, scratch art, plastic canvas cross stitch, and burlap pastel paintings. All sessions will focus on having fun while creating project-based art in a variety of media and developing each child's particular interest and creativity.

Learning a foreign language provides an interesting challenge for children and develops their mental powers. In the Spanish portion of this camp, the children will work in a traditional Montessori classroom setting but will speak and practice exclusively in Spanish. Activities will include lessons, stories, songs, and games. All sessions will focus on enjoying the exploration of another language through a variety of academic and creative exercises.

Art and Spanish will be held in small groups in separate classrooms. Children will start each day in either Spanish or Art and will switch classrooms and sessions in the afternoon. The camp enrollees will be taught by Mrs. Esther Prado and Mrs. Sandra Serbia, full-time teachers at Maitland Montessori Elementary/Middle School.

The camp will be offered at all levels of competency--from students who have little experience with arts and crafts and/or Spanish to those with a high proficiency.

Enrollment is open to all currently enrolled Maitland Montessori students and their friends from first to fifth grade for the 2010/2011 school year.
