As I prepare to study at the second-oldest university in the world, graduating as one of four class valedictorians, I cannot help but look back fondly on my memories of Maitland Montessori. The teachers there (special shout-out to Mr. Owens and Mrs. Talbert especially!) were kind and nurturing towards my young autistic self in a way I doubt many public school teachers would have been.
There are seven steps to becoming a Montessori parent.
Step 1: Enrolling Your Child
The first step in becoming as Montessori parent took place when you enrolled your child in a Montessori program. You need to understand the core philosophy of what Montessori is all about. The most significant Montessori concept is to respect the child. Your child is not a blank slate. Respecting the child is first, to respect the nature of children and their individual personalities. Children are not mini adults waiting to be molded.
